Our little one is now 19 months old, he does not talk yet! The words he can say (and understand the meaning):
mama
papa
teta (for kereta the short for kereta api which means ‘train’)
nyeuh (for meow)
Recently, he added some more words like:
moo moo (like a cow)
woof woof (like a dog) but he does not say it much

Recently, I joined an association called Café Bilingues, a network of bilingual familes. The reason why I want to join this association is to meet other families that raise children bilingually or even multilingually. There are ups and downs to raise children this way. My 18 months old boy talk the more and more , or I should say it is a parentese to be exact. He talk to us, to his himself, to his toys, to other children at the park, but not to strangers….

Anakku senang sekali mainan “coucou” (Indonesia: ciluk ba). Dia mengerti kalau kita bilang “coucou” (bacanya: kuku). Tetapi nggak terlalu ngerti kalau aku bilang “ciluk-ba”. Kalau “Ba” saja, dia agak ngerti! Si Ayah lebih gila kalau sedang mainan dengan anaknya, maklum…
